Old Munich Olympic Games poster

by Albrecht Gaebele, 1972

Poster realized for the Olympic Games of Munich, from August 26th till September 10th, 1972, photo of Albrecht Gaebele.

The 1972 Munich Olympics were supposed to be a global celebration of sport and peace, but they were tragically marked by a terrorist attack.

Despite the tragedy, the Munich Games were also marked by great sporting performances. The American Mark Spitz won seven gold medals in swimming, setting a new record. The USSR was also very successful, winning the most medals.

These Olympic Games are remembered as a tragic combination of violence and sport, reminding everyone of the vulnerability of world events to terrorist acts.
